Mental Health Matters

Hello! My name is Wes Cowan (He/Him/His). I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I have been practicing master’s level social work since 2019. I started my journey in Austin, Texas as a direct care support for folks finding their way to recovery and then found myself as a case manager working with folks experiencing homelessness living with HIV. Once I was able I became a therapist focused on working with meeting people where they are at and focusing on their strengths to build them up. Now I have learned Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and trauma informed therapy modalities that influence my practice. I believe you are the expert on you. I am a guide and a witness to better mental health. I am currently located in Maine and practice virtually with the help of Zoom. I am licensed as an LCSW in the states of Maine and Texas.

Therapy can be scary, and anxiety inducing. It is a big step to take, and one people should feel proud of doing. You are trying to address your needs and better yourself, and trying is doing. You are doing the things needed to better your health. Mental health is part of your physical and spiritual health. When I say spiritual I mean consciousness. I am able to work with anyone and everyone in their mental health care. I come from a background of working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, people seeking harm reduction/sobriety/recovery, people healing from religious trauma, struggling with depression, anxiety, and chronic trauma. In the space I help to create there should be no judgment, a place to be, and a place to grow.

Cost is $80 a session (57 minutes), and sliding scale available for limited spots, for those who need it. I am not currently accepting insurance at this time. It may be possible to work on a super bill that can be submitted to insurance companies.

Mental health care should be accessible, and I will work to make it accessible as much as I can.

Finding a provider that is a good fit is hard, and it is best to interview to see if you and the provider is a good fit. I offer a 10-15 minute phone call to meet and see if we would be a good fit at no cost. I will share my style of therapy and I will have a few questions such as: What is your goal regarding therapy? Is this your first time seeking therapy? What was your previous experience like? What worked and didn’t work for you?
